Miami Hurricanes linebacker Shaquille Quarterman and running back Mark Walton were named to a pair of college football award preseason watch lists.
Quarterman was chosen for the watch list for the Chuck Bednarik Award, which is given to the nation’s top defensive player. Walton was selected for the Maxwell Award, honoring college football’s player of the year.
A sophomore, Quarterman started all 13 games last season. He ranked second on the team with 84 tackles and finished with 10 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. Quarterman was named All-ACC third-team.
Walton, a junior, ran for 1,117 yards and 14 touchdowns last year.
