CORAL GABLES — Middle Tennessee State quarterback Chase Cunningham didn’t need to complete 35 passes to beat Miami. He needed only 16.
Four of those passes were 69 yards or more. Those four passes accounted for 327 of Cunningham’s 408 passing yards in the Blue Raiders’ shocking win over the Hurricanes on Sept. 24.
“We had four big plays that probably defined the game; they really did,” defensive coordinator Kevin Steele said.
Following a bye week, Miami’s secondary’s task only gets tougher. Now the Hurricanes will need to find a way to limit North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye, who is off to one of the hottest starts in the country, when they face the Tar Heels at home on Saturday.
