The college sports landscape is changing in Florida.
Gov. Ron DeSantis signed House Bill 7B into law on Thursday, amending the state’s name, image and likeness law and allowing colleges to play more of a role in facilitating deals for athletes.
The Hurricanes, who have numerous athletes signed to lucrative NIL deals, are in favor of the new law, issuing a statement of support on Thursday.
“Miami Athletics enthusiastically supports HB 7-B, amending Florida’s Name, Image & Likeness law, signed by Governor DeSantis today,” the statement said. “The updated regulations, combined with NCAA guidance, will allow schools in our state to be more engaged with student-athletes and their NIL opportunities, while continuing to advise them on how best to navigate the NIL marketplace and maximize their branding and earning potential.
