Both Oregon’s offense under Mario Cristobal and Michigan’s offense under Josh Gattis featured heavy doses of the run game. The Wolverines were No. 15 in the nation in rushing yardage, while the Ducks were not far behind at No. 24.
Though both offenses averaged more than 200 rushing yards per game last season, the first-year Hurricanes coach and offensive coordinator have not had the same success at Miami. The Hurricanes are 95th in the nation in rushing yards per game, averaging about 131 yards through seven games.
Several factors have caused Miami’s (3-4, 1-2 ACC) running game to struggle this season, but with the potential of redshirt freshman Jake Garcia making his first career start against Virginia (3-4, 1-3 ACC) on Saturday, the Hurricanes will hope to get the ground game moving again to take some of the load off the young quarterback.
