Hurricanes end Early Signing Day with ‘historic’ recruiting class

Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes’ coaching staff knew entering the first day of the Early Signing Period that they had secured an excellent recruiting class, but that did not mean there were not a few late surprises.

One of the jewels of the class, five-star cornerback Cormani McClain, pushed back his signing at least one day, according to a post by McClain’s mother on Twitter. Another committed prospect, Dillard defensive back Antione Jackson, showed up to his signing ceremony with another school’s hat.

But when the dust settled Wednesday, Miami had signed all of its committed prospects except for McClain, putting the Hurricanes’ staff in position to add complementary players in the 2023 class before February’s National Signing Day, focus on veteran players in the transfer portal and turn more attention to 2024 recruits.
