Hurricanes coach Manny Diaz acknowledges athletic director’s October comments may have hurt recruiting

CORAL GABLES — It’s safe to say the Miami Hurricanes’ 2022 recruiting class isn’t where most would’ve expected it to be at this point in the year.

Five weeks away from the Early Singing Period, UM’s 2022 class has eight players committed to the program who would be on scholarship next year and is No. 60 in the nation according to 247 Sports Composite rankings.

Despite turning around its season after a 2-4 start, Miami (5-3, 3-2 ACC) hasn’t had an expected-scholarship-player commit to its program since Markeith Williams, a four-star safety prospect out of Orlando Evans, announced his verbal pledge to the Hurricanes in mid-August — though UM did recently get a commitment from IMG Academy long snapper Gabe Landers, with Landers expected to be a preferred walk-on.
