Friends Kaaya, Newby prepare to face off as Miami hosts Nebraska

Last September before the Hurricanes traveled to Lincoln, few Cornhuskers likely knew what to expect from Miami’s young quarterback, Brad Kaaya.

At that point, the freshman had yet to emerge on the national stage. He’d yet to set school records.

But Nebraska running back Terrell Newby had an idea of the challenge Kaaya would pose to his defensive teammates – after all, he’d spent most of his life playing alongside Miami’s budding star during their pee wee and high school football days in southern California.

Miami came up short that night, falling 41-31 to Nebraska, but Kaaya had one of the biggest nights of his Hurricanes career passing for 359 yards to break his own week-old freshman single-game record.
