Former UM wideout Jeff Thomas transfers to Illinois

Illinois landed a potentially major transfer Friday night, when former Miami wide reciver Jeff Thomas announced he will join the Illini.

The Illini recruited Thomas out of high school at East St. Louis, where he was a top-40 national recruit who led the Flyers to the 2016 Class 7A state title at Memorial Stadium. He dazzled at the 2017 Under Armour All-American game, using his 4.3 40-yard-dash speed to take short passes for touchdowns of 44 and 79 yards.

Thomas announced his decision on social media, and Illinois confirmed the news. The Illini indicated Thomas will seek immediate eligibility by requesting a waiver from the NCAA’s rule that requires athletes who transfer to sit out a year before competing at their new school.
