Leonard Myers, the former Dillard High standout and cornerback who was instrumental in rebuilding the Hurricanes program ahead of Miami’s 2001 national championship, died Friday after a battle with cancer.
He was 38.
Several former Hurricanes players – including current Miami cornerbacks coach Mike Rumph and receiver Sinorice Moss – posted online tributes to their former teammate, whose death was later confirmed by Miami on social media.
“I learned a lot from Leonard,” Rumph wrote in a text message to the Sun Sentinel on Friday. “I’m just glad I got to see him last week and thank him for what he did for me as a teammate.
