Like most Hurricanes fans, Jon Beason was impressed by how Miami’s defense played last season.
Under defensive coordinator Manny Diaz, the Hurricanes improved dramatically in several statistical categories including total defense (20th nationally, up from 69th in 2015), sacks (22nd nationally, up from 64th in 2015), and tackles for loss (eighth nationally, up from 96th in 2015) and for Beason, that was a joy.
But now, the former Hurricanes linebacker and recently retired three-time Pro Bowler wants to see Miami’s defense take an even bigger step forward – and he thinks that’s entirely possible, considering the talent level on Miami’s defense and that the Hurricanes are learning under Diaz, a well-respected coordinator that showed early in his Miami tenure that he wants his players to be aggressive and smart.
