FIU took an early lead in the top of the first, when a sac-fly scored their first run of many on the night. In the bottom half of the inning two consecutive walks for the Hurricanes made an early attempt to score the tying run appear possible, but Michael Burns was caught stealing, and a fly-out followed by a strikeout quickly ended the threat.
