CORAL GABLES — Deandre Johnson didn’t have to look far for players to study as he makes a position change entering his first season with the Miami Hurricanes.
Johnson, a former Miami Southridge High standout who transferred to UM in the spring after spending four years at Tennessee, played was used as a Jack linebacker — a hybrid of a defensive end and linebacker — during his time with the Volunteers.
With the Hurricanes, Johnson will play as a traditional defensive end, primarily rushing off the edge and not having to play in coverage like he did with Tennessee.
