Broward County’s death toll from the new coronavirus now stands at 207 people, with more than 1,300 dead across Florida.
The Florida Department of Health on Sunday also reported 5,312 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the county since the outbreak began. That includes 1,056 people who have been treated at local hospitals.
It’s a one-day increase of three deaths and 54 cases. Broward is second in the state, behind Miami-Dade, for the number of people who have died or gotten infected.
Gov. Ron DeSantis said South Florida’s higher concentration of cases is why the region is not included in the first phase of the state’s reopening, which starts Monday.
