It wasn't pretty, not by any stretch. But it was exactly what the Hurricanes needed — a win.
Behind another stellar performance from quarterback Brad Kaaya, the Hurricanes overcame some self-inflicted mistakes to snap a two-game losing streak with a 30-20 victory over Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon at Sun Life Stadium.
With the win, Miami picked up its first victory of the season over a Coastal Division opponent and evened its ACC record after last week's loss to Florida State.
The game — one that was tight throughout — was clinched in the final minutes when Kaaya led the Hurricanes on a 9-play, 75-yard drive that was capped when Kaaya found Rashawn Scott in the end zone for a 7-yard touchdown that gave Miami breathing room and a 10-point lead with 2:44 left.
