'Canes lose tackle Sunny Odogwu for bowl game

When the Hurricanes take the field next week in search of their first bowl win since 2006, they'll have to do so without one of their regular starters on the offensive line.

Sunny Odogwu, who has made nine starts at right tackle this season, had surgery on his right knee recently and won't be available for the Dec. 26 Sun Bowl showdown against Washington State, both interim Miami coach Larry Scott and offensive line coach Art Kehoe said Friday.

The 6-foot-8, 318-pound Odogwu will travel to El Paso with his teammates, but his spot on the line will likely be filled by former Palm Beach Central standout Kc McDermott, who has seen extensive playing time throughout the season, starting at right guard against Georgia Tech and at left guard at Pittsburgh.
