FORT LAUDERDALE — Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal graduated from Miami Columbus High in 1988, and about 36 years later, he could bring in three highly touted prospects from his alma mater.
The Explorers’ talented trio of 2024 defensive line prospects — TJ Capers, Daylen Russell and Dylan Stephenson — all hold Hurricanes offers and have Miami in their minds a year before they can sign with a college.
“It’s a cool fact,” Russell said Saturday after Columbus beat Apopka in the Class 4M title game at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. “If I do end up going to Miami, you’re going to have a Columbus alumni that’s been there and knows how to play football.
