As the Hurricanes work their way through camp, moving ever closer to their season opener, there is a sense of urgency.
Few likely feel it as keenly, though, as Gerald Willis does.
Willis, who had already sat out an entire season after transferring from Florida to Miami, didn’t play in a game all of last year. And last July, his future with the Hurricanes was somewhat uncertain, the defensive lineman taking a leave of absence from the team for unspecified personal reasons.
He’d eventually return to the practice squad, helping the Hurricanes prepare for all of their games, though he would not take the field against the likes of Florida State, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Clemson or Wisconsin.
