Arizona jumps out to early lead, downs Miami 5-1 in CWS opener

Miami has been through this before.

For the second straight College World Series the Hurricanes opened play with a thud; this time a 5-1 loss Saturday to Arizona in front of 25,715 at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha.

A year ago, Miami lost in its opening CWS game, 15-3, to Florida — the biggest postseason lost in program history.

Miami starter Michael Mediavilla (11-2) slogged through a 24-pitch first inning in which he could not locate any of his pitches. Mediavilla hit two batters, and walked two others. Arizona's Kyle Lewis walked on four pitches with the bases loaded to put Arizona ahead, 1-0, and later Jared Oliva doubled down right field line — the only hit of the inning — scoring two.
