The fifth-year redshirt junior had two significant ACL injuries limit his playing time during his first three years at UM. But after going nearly 2 1/2 years without a major injury and being in Miami’s defensive rotation last year, Steed is ready to take another step for the Hurricanes.
Steed was listed as UM’s starting weakside linebacker on the team’s two-deep depth chart that was released on Tuesday for its matchup against Michigan State on Saturday.
The move came after coach Manny Diaz confirmed that Keontra Smith, who started at weakside linebacker in Miami’s first two games, will be out for at least the next three games after sustaining a leg injury in the Hurricanes’ win over Appalachian State last Saturday.
