Even before Greg Joseph’s 32-yard field goal tied it, FAU had raised some eyebrows.
A national audience had already watched the Owls keep pace with the established Hurricanes in the first half, even through a 67-minute weather delay. An announced sellout crowd of 30,321 at FAU Stadium – the first in the building’s history – had already seen the Owls offense carve Miami’s defense early, even with starting quarterback Jaquez Johnson and top running back Jay Warren lost to injuries.
So by the time Joseph converted and Miami found itself trying to fight off a potential upset before eventually picking up a 44-20 win over the Owls, the exasperation level was high from frustrated Hurricanes fans, many of whom took to social media to share their displeasure about how their team was playing.
