Summer League proving to be successful testing ground for Miami Heat

The Summer League Laboratory is a referendum for the coaches rather than the players.

Summer League players rarely stick in the NBA, but it's great for testing new coaching ideas because the games pit players of similar talent level against each other. Probably less than 10 percent of the unsigned summer league players make the opening day NBA rosters, and mostly likely they will ride the bench. During Summer League, the coaching staff can evaluate and tweak ideas that would be too dangerous to try during the regular season.

The Orlando games last only 40 minutes, so the adjusted scores per 48 minutes were:

40 minutes score each game

MIA 92 71 78 87 82
OPP 76 70 73 85 76

48 minutes score each game

MIA 110 85 94 104 98
OPP 91 84 88 102 91

The Heat managed to increase their pace and scoring over last season to 98 points per 48 minutes, which counts as a success.
