Spoelstra misses game while waiting birth of baby | Miami Herald

INDIANAPOLIS - For the first time in nearly 10 seasons as Heat coach, Erik Spoelstra won’t be on the sideline when his team plays Sunday.

And for good reason: He’s about to become a father for the first time.

Spoelstra flew home to Miami on Saturday when he received word that his wife’s water broke. They were in the hospital Sunday, awaiting the birth of what the couple knows will be a boy.

Assistant coach Dan Craig is coaching the team in Spoelstra’s absence on Sunday against the Pacers.
