Well, so much for Marcus Thornton joining the Miami Heat. It was strongly suspected that the Heat would offer the shooting guard a contract after the two parties met on Friday. However, after an offer wasn’t made, Thornton agreed to sign with the Houston Rockets. The deal was first reported by Yahoo Sports.
According to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson, the Heat were prepared to offer Thornton but first wanted to trade a player–presumably Mario Chalmers–to make room for him.
Thornton signing with Houston could be a signal that (a) the Heat are unable to find a trade partner for Chalmers or even Chris Andersen, or (b) Thornton was growing impatient with waiting.
