The Miami Heat used the “stretch provision” to waive forward Ryan Anderson, who had $15.6 million of his $21.3 million salary guaranteed for next season. The move reduces the Heat cap hit for Anderson’s contract to $5.2 million over each of the next three seasons.
That move enabled the Heat to make the sign-and-trade for Jimmy Butler official.

The Heat traded Josh Richardson, Hassan Whiteside and their 2023 first-round pick for Butler and Meyers Leonard.
