Heat rally falls short in 104-101 season-opening loss

With 4.9 seconds left, the Miami Heat put themselves in a good position to complete an improbable comeback in their season opener against the Orlando Magic. Down 101-90 with just under three minutes left, Miami roared back to come within 102-101. And Evan Fournier, who shot 87 percent from the foul line last year, had just missed two free throws.

But the Heat didn’t even get a shot attempt up on their next possession.

Josh Richardson stepped out of bounds after fumbling an in-bounds pass from Dwyane Wade, committing a costly turnover that cemented their loss Wednesday night in the opening game of their 31st season.
