Somber figures are out Friday morning for the impact of the new coronavirus in Florida: 1,012 people have died and 30,174 individuals have tested positive so far.
And just when there was hope that infections were dropping steadily is data showing that there was a spike of 1,300 cases across the state on Thursday. That ended five straight days of fewer than 1,000 new diagnoses.
Also since the outbreak began: Almost 600 of the COVID-19 deaths have been in the major South Florida counties of Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach, according to the Department of Health.
The three counties have at least 17,857 confirmed cases.
