SUNRISE (CBSMiami) – Students and teachers attending this year’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School graduation ceremony were treated to quite the surprise.
Recently retired Miami Heat superstar Dwyane Wade was introduced as a special guest speaker during Sunday’s ceremony at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, much to the delight to everyone in attendance.
Wade has been an active supporter for the school, its faculty and its students since last year’s deadly shooting that killed 17 people and wounded 17 others.
He has made several appearances at Stoneman Douglas, developing bonds with many he has encountered.
That is especially true of the family of 17-year-old Joaquin Oliver, one of the victims of the shooting.
