On the night of the 2013 NBA Draft, the Miami Heat, which had no picks, traded a future second rounder for James Ennis, a senior coming out of Long Beach State. At that point, Miami had high hopes for Ennis, who they saw as a potential replacement to Shane Battier, set to retire after the 2013-14 season. He spent that season in the Australian league, averaging 21.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game en route to the NBL championship and third in MVP voting.
