Instead of letting the three undrafted players the Miami Heat signed last week compete for the team’s second two-way roster spot, Miami signed former Charlotte Hornet Caleb Martin to a two-way contract earlier this week. (Rookie Marcus Garrett already has Miami’s other two-way contract.)
Martin turns 26 years old on Sept. 28, so he’s older than most players on two-way contracts. But because of Victor Oladipo’s injury and Miami’s reliance on unproven players like Gabe Vincent and Max Strus for bench minutes, Martin could become a consistent rotation player. If Martin plays better than Strus early in the year, Erik Spoelstra could swap their places on the depth chart.
