Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade ruled himself out against the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night as he battles the effects of a sore left hamstring.
Wade played through tightness and soreness in the hamstring during Wednesdays' home loss to the Indiana Pacers, chipping in 20 points in 34 minutes on the floor.
"Tonight, I'm not playing. It's as simple as that," Wade said, via Michael Wallace of ESPN.com. "It's just not smart for me to try and push it."
The Miami Heat are 5-3 through the first eight games of the 2014-15 NBA season, pulling together as a unit in impressive fashion. Wade was on the floor for all eight of those games, reversing a trend that kept him out of 28 regular-season games in 2013-14.
Despite missing his first game of the year on Friday, Wade says that it won't be long before he's back on the floor and contributing.
"I've had worse," Wade said. "I'll be back soon enough."
