The Miami Heat celebrated their 206th consecutive sellout during Wednesday night's season opener against the Washington Wizards, dispelling rumors that LeBron James' departure would test the resolve of the team's fan base in South Beach.
However, Washington Wizards play-by-play announcer Steve Buckhantz wasn't impressed with what he heard from the Miami crowd. In fact, he claims Miami used artificial crowd noise to enhance the team's home court advantage at AmericanAirlines Arena.
“They’ve gone to the canned crowd noise here in Miami, which is, I guess, something you have to do when LeBron James leaves,” Buckhantz said during the game's broadcast.
Buckhantz levied the same criticism at the Heat during the Wizards' final visit to Miami last season - a game that ended in a 99-90 Miami win.
The Miami Heat have not officially commented on Buckhantz's claims as of this writing.
