In this Heat rumors and news update, the Miami Heat's current salary cap situation could prohibit them from making a legitimate top-tier bid for the recently-amnestied Carlos Boozer.
According to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel, "with their limited salary-cap position, the Heat are not expected to offer more than a minimal bid, if even that, during the amnesty-waiver process with Carlos Boozer, who received his amnesty release Tuesday from the Chicago Bulls."
Teams that want in on Boozer submit private bids (over $1.5 million), with the top bidder paying him at their listed salary which subtracts out of the $16.8 million due to him from the Bulls.
The Heat had to some creative financing in order to get Luol Deng, Josh McRoberts, and Danny Granger's contracts on the books, even bringing Udonis Haslem back on a pay cut at two years and $5.6 million after Haslem opted out of picking up his $4.6 million player option.
With teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and Indiana Pacers having the room right now to make more substantial bids, the Miami Heat will likely be on the outside looking in at the chase for Boozer at this juncture.
