The Miami Heat's entire coaching and front office staff knew the margin for injuries and errors this season would be significantly smaller with the influx of new talent that came in this past offseason.
What Erik Spoelstra, Pat Riley, and others feared to be a worst-case scenario full of injuries to key stars has come to pass, and veterans like Dwyane Wade are left to try and make the best out of a sticky situation.
“I think if you go back to the preseason transcripts, I said that this is the type of season that we’re going to have,” Dwyane Wade said, via Joseph Goodman. “This is the team that we have. We don’t have that team that can win 27 in a row right now. I’m not the kind of guy to dream that big."
The fact is that this Heat team is still struggling to keep themselves running efficiently - especially on the defensive end - with the rotation seemingly changing on the nightly basis.
“I understand where we’re at right now with the team that we have," Wade said. "Can we get better? Yeah, we can get better. But we’re not at that point yet. This is the kind of team we have, and we got to figure out how to be as good as we can with this unit. We’re all trying to figure it out, players and coaches.”
