CARLSBAD, Calif. — There have been times this season when experienced returner Jarvis Landry has been called upon to field a punt that will likely land inside the Miami Dolphins’ 10-yard line.
But in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game at San Diego, rookie Jakeem Grant was in the game to field a 55-yard punt that Grant tried to catch at the Dolphins’ 7-yard line.
Grant fumbled the punt and it was recovered by the Chargers in what could have been a devastating turnover.
As Miami special teams coach Darren Rizzi noted this week, some asked him why Landry wasn’t deep on the play.
