As reported in two great Sports Illustrated articles this week by Scott Price, two former Miami Dolphins players, one on offense and one on defense, are struggling with the effects of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE.
Nick Buoniconti played linebacker for 14 years with the Boston Patriots and Miami Dolphins, and was a defensive captain for all three Super Bowl seasons with the Dolphins from ’71-73. Running back Jim Kiick was a key cog in the three-pronged ground attack for the Dolphins during that same period, aharing the backfield with Eugene “Mercury” Morris and hall of famer Larry Csonka throughout the Dolphins early years of glory.
