While Brian Flores was the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, the defense was tenacious and was blitz happy. When Mike McDaniel was hired, the defense was kept in tac because Josh Boyer was retained as defensive coordinator. This was not kind to the Dolphins defense. The unit was so banged up during the season that special teams players were key contributors on a weekly basis. It’s easy to blame the injuries on the defenses performance this past season and Boyer wasn’t going to use that as an excuse. But now the Dolphins will have to find a new defensive coordinator as Boyer was relieved of his duties yesterday along with a handful of other defensive coaches.
