CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Atlanta has been awarded Super Bowl LIII for the 2019 season.
The owners voted on the bid at the spring league meeting. Atlanta beat out New Orleans for the game on the fourth ballot.
Most people anticipated Atlanta was the front-runner for the 2019 game all along. The league often rewards cities with newly constructed venues. Atlanta is in the process of building the $1.4 billion Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which is set to open next summer.
Falcons president Rich McKay said there is no lingering concerns about the possibility of a winter storm affecting the city's ability to host the Super Bowl.
