Smith did well his first five years with Atlanta taking them to four playoff appearances and finishing 9-7 in his second season. The last two years were not that kind to Smith who was released after the 2014 season. Smith is a defensive minded coach and the Dolphins could use some of that in Miami. Especially given the fact most of the problems are on defense.
It’s not likely a hire for the Dolphins but it starts the ball rolling. In addition, Miami can get an idea of possible coordinator candidates as well should they decide to retain Dan Campbell.
