DAVIE — The Miami Dolphins have traded defensive end Chris McCain to the New Orleans Saints for a late-round draft choice, a league source confirmed.
McCain, 6-feet-5, 236 pounds, is a pass-rushing phenom who needed to improve his play against the run. McCain simply became caught up in a numbers game in Miami, which has a deep group of defensive linemen.
The Saints are desperate for pass rush and former Dolphins executive Jeff Ireland is employed in New Orleans.
The Dolphins are expected to receive a late-round draft choice in return for McCain, who tried to bulk up after a failed experiement at linebacker last season.
