Sunday was Andrew Franks’ turn in the Dolphins’ kicking battle, and the free-agent signee responded by making 4-of-6 field-goal attempts, including a 52-yarder. And best of all for him, he couldn’t be blamed for one of his misses.
Walt Aikens was allowed to burst through clean to block a 47-yard attempt by Franks. Franks’ other miss also came from 47, except that time, he doinked it off the upright.
Franks is competing with incumbent Caleb Sturgis for the kicking role.
“It’s still ongoing,” Philbin said. “We would have loved to have had more opportunities the other night to see what Andrew Franks could have done.
