The Dolphins’ defense will look different this season.
There will be new starters sprinkled all around the field, but one of the biggest changes involves a new philosophy. Miami plans to utilize the wide-nine scheme under new defensive coordinator Vance Joseph.
A wide-nine defense’s most noticeable feature is its alignment along the defensive front. The scheme spreads out the defensive front more along the line of scrimmage, placing the end a full gap outside of where the tight end would line up to help create better pass rushing angles.
