Miami Dolphins make first roster cuts

J.D. Walton came as a veteran who had started games for the New York Giants and could serve as a backup behind Mike Pouncey. He is gone today, having been among the first cuts by the Miami Dolphins this afternoon.

Walton's release shows the Dolphins are comfortable with the health of starter Mike Pouncey, although he left Saturday's game with a left knee injury. Pouncey and the team have said he is fine and the injury will not affect his availability for the 2015 season-opener.

The Walton release also suggests the Dolphins are going Sam Brenner at center -- for now.
