When Brandon Fields took a significant pay cut in the offseason, it was assumed he had solidified his status with the Miami Dolphins.
That assumption didn't count on rookie Matt Darr coming in and winning a competition outright by having a longer gross and net average in both preseason games and practice. Darr's gross average in games was 50.3 to 47.0 by Fields.
The net averages were 41.9 for Darr to 41.1 for Fields.
And so that, not the salary cap savings, was the reason Fields was cut this morning.
