This really isn’t a new idea about Kiko Alonso as many have speculated that he should be released or traded but perhaps he shouldn’t be. Salary cap is one reason. Miami would save a little over $4 million in cap space but carry just under $4 million in dead money.
Alonso may not be the perfect well-rounded player that Dolphins fans want and he may be pricey at $8 million (again, look at the cost vs. savings vs. dead money) but his motor is non-stop. Alonso makes tackles and does not quit on plays. With defensive coordinator Patrick Graham saying they will run portions of both a 4-3 and 3-4 schemes Alonso should fit into the picture.
