Joe Schad is reporting that the Dolphins have reached an agreement with restricted free agent LB Kiko Alonso on a three-year, $29 million extension that includes $18.5 million guaranteed.
The two sides were reportedly interested in getting a long-term extension in place before the start of the 2017 and looks like they managed to get a deal finalized just a few weeks after the free agent market opened.
The Dolphins used a first-round tender on Alonso that would have cost them $3.91 million for the 2017 season had they not agreed to an extension.
