Earlier this offseason, the Miami Dolphins heavily pursued Sean Payton to become the team's next head coach after he resigned from his position with the New Orleans Saints.
David ˜Hyde of the Sun Sentinel reports that the Dolphins were prepared to give Payton a massive contract that is typically unheard of for NFL head coaches.
"How big? Sean Payton was to be paid $100 million over five years as Dolphins coach, a league source said, with the idea of making him the highest-paid NFL coach after New England's Bill Belichick," Hyde wrote.
