DAVIE, Fla. -- One of the big national stories in recent weeks has been the public shootings in various parts of the country. The recent incident on UCLA's campus particularly hit close to home for Miami Dolphins rookie tight end Thomas Duarte.
Miami's seventh-round pick couldn't join the Dolphins for organized team activities because rookies cannot practice while school is still in session, per NFL rules. Therefore, Duarte remained close to UCLA's campus this spring in Southern California.
On June 1, a UCLA graduate student shot and killed William S. Klug, who was a professor at the school, and later killed himself.
