Dolphins remove transition tag from DE Olivier Vernon

The Miami Dolphins have removed the transition tag from defensive end Olivier Vernon, which will allow the former University of Miami standout to become an unrestricted free agent and sign with another NFL team without giving Miami a chance to match the offer.

Rescending the transition tag on Vernon, whom the Dolphins selected in the third-round of the 2012 draft, will likely produce a compensatory pick for the team in 2017 once he signs with another team. It also frees up $12.7 million in cap space for the Dolphins, which signed Mario Williams to a two-year, $16.
