Dolphins release Pro Bowl Punter Brandon Fields

Fields was set to make $2 million dollars this upcoming season, and that was after taking a pay cut so he could remain with the Miami Dolphins. But unfortunately for him, the cut he took was apparently not significant enough to warrant keeping him around, especially with undrafted rookie Matt Darr also having a strong preseason. Fields was the second-longest tenured player om the roster.

Releasing Fields saves the Dolphins$1,750,000 in cap space, and creates $770,000 in dead money according to OvertheCap.com, which is why the Dolphins making this move is only mildly surprising. The Dolphins are going to be in serious cap trouble next season, and so it makes sense for them to be looking for ways to save money now.
