The 1996 offseason was one of major change for the Dolphins after legendary coach Don Shula stepped down and Jimmy Johnson was hired to take over.
Although the Dolphins were coming off consecutive playoff appearances, they were in rebuilding mode as the draft approached after losing four starters — Irving Fryar, Marco Coleman, Bryan Cox and Troy Vincent — in free agency.
